Institute for Water and River Basin Management

The Institute for Water and River Basin Management (Institut für Wasser und Gewässerentwicklung (IWG)) at the KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) combines the divisions hydrology, hydraulic engineering, water quantity management, urban water management and water quality management under one roof to tackle interdisciplinary challenges in water research, river basin and urban water management. The IWG also supports authorities and the industry in developing and implementing practice-oriented approaches for water management issues. Based on IWRM projects, close cooperation and technology transfer with Asian countries takes place with all aforementioned divisions. The lessons learned find their way into the education of students and thus safeguard direct cross-linkage of research and teaching. Correspondingly, teaching at the IWF provides an integrative insight into river basins and urban water management in the courses civil engineering, geo-ecology, applied geosciences, resources engineering, geodesy, geo-informatics and engineering economics.

Institute of Applied Geosciences

The Institute of Applied Geosciences consists of six divisions conducting research and cooperating within the scope of many projects. All divisions contribute to the large spectrum of educational options in the field of geosciences.
